An update on the Beacon Project
On July 9th we held a panel discussion, "Support Beyond Crisis", at Chelsea Youth Club. Our brilliant panel shared their views and experiences of helping vulnerable residents to build resilience and independence, and we learned more about the new Beacon Partnership service on World's End.
CEO of First Love Foundation, Denise Bentley, shared how she built a holistic wraparound support and advice service from scratch in Tower Hamlets 15 years ago, and eventually closed down her foodbank in favour of more sustainable support.
Baljit Baldesha, CEO of Nucleus Legal Advice Centre spoke about how powerful the law can be as a tool to ensure residents are receiving the right support and why he felt drawn to be part of the new Beacon partnership. And after only 4 weeks in the job, Beacon's new Project Co-ordinator, Tilde Danielsson shared some of the key issues her team has been supporting residents with in the early stages of the service launch:
- Domestic violence
- Social isolation and limited mobility
- Housing issues such as damp and mould
The tenacity and dedication of our frontline advice workers was clear and we look forward to reporting on the impact that the Beacon service is having on World's End in the coming months.
