An evening at the Design Museum and a new campaign to tackle loneliness

On Tuesday 6 December, nearly 500 friends and supporters joined us for our Annual Celebration at the spectacular new Design Museum. The event was generously supported by KX, the Private Members Health Club in Chelsea. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea mingled with our guests who were welcomed by the Museum’s Director, Deyan Sudjic OBE.

Tim Coleridge, our chair spoke passionately about a big issue that affects people from all walks-of-life and all ages across Kensington & Chelsea – loneliness, and he announced our new campaign to combat it, Hands Across the Borough.

Did you know that:
20% of Londoners say they have no close family or friends to rely on when they have a problem.
Almost 50% of older people in our Borough live alone.
25% of people over 65 say they often feel lonely, rising to a staggering 48% of 18-24 year olds

We have ambitions to raise £200,000 a year over the next three years and will use this money to invest in projects with our network of excellent local charities to reach out to people experiencing isolation. We aim to make a big difference locally and invite you to get involved. We are thrilled that we already have £30,000 pledged to this campaign which will help us to improve many local lives – what a great start!

100% of all donations received will go directly to those who need it.
As well as raising money, we will bring people together through events and help create connections, so that by the end of our campaign in 2019, people in the Borough will feel less lonely and more engaged with their community.

Your time and money could make a real difference in helping local people to feel more included, connected and cared for. Could you:

Donate money to one of our projects and help us reach our annual target of £200,000?
Fundraise as an individual, business or school?
Offer a theatre, museum, green space or venue for a community event?
Link a school with one of our charities?
Donate your time and talent to one of our projects or come up with one of your own?
Start a ‘say hello to your neighbour’ project in your street?
