Community Spirit - bringing joy, hope and healing

Our easily accessible small grants fund supports events and activities that bring joy, hope and healing to the community after the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The newly launched Community Spirit Small Grant Fund was set up in September 2021 offering grants of up to £1,000 for short term community events, spreading joy and encouraging community cohesion.

The fund also allows us to stay connected to many grass roots charities and generate new charity partner relationships. We are particularly keen to engage with organisations in the South of the borough.

Since the end of September, we have funded 39 varied and exciting events, such as:

  • Unity Grove CIC hosted a Black History community event highlighting the History of Caribbean culture in and around North Kensington.  The event was specifically to support the vulnerable people who used their food bank, as well as local residents and families. Entertainment, food and children's activities were enjoyed by approximately 250 local residents.
  • North Kensington Law Centre, in recognition of the incredible work that their volunteers do, hosted a celebratory lunch for their 50 volunteers, on International Volunteer day.
  • Restart Christmas Connections reduced social isolation and increase community cohesion over the festive period for those who are disadvantaged and/or have experienced homelessness in the borough, They offered free £10 mobile phone top-up credit and, if needed, a very basic handset.  Approximately 100 people were able to stay in touch with loved ones and were also able to receive calls from a Restart befriender.
